Mother Tree Sponsorship Program™
As Green As It Gets™ has developed a reforestation program in the Ixcan rainforest to support the local farming community and protect rare and disappearing tree species native to this area.
Not only are these are species key elements to rainforest preservation, but if protected, they will provide many benefits to the families who own the land. For instance, lumber for sales, firewood for the kitchen, legumes for nitrogen fixation, food, or shade for understory crops.
We have been through the rainforest and registered as many "Mother Tree" species as we could find. Mother Trees are trees native to the Ixcan rainforest that are old enough to bear healthy seeds.
You can help by sponsoring one of our registered Mother Trees.
Sponsoring a tree guarantees that the tree will remain standing for another year. It also makes seedlings available to members of the community to further their own reforestation efforts. Without sponsorship, these trees are at risk of being cut down for lumber before they've been propagated, which may result in the species becoming locally extinct.
One year sponsorship is $25. Fifty percent of this sponsorship will go directly to the owner of the tree - equivalent to about four days' wages. The other fifty percent will be put toward furthering rainforest reforestation programs in the area, including purchase of seeds or seedlings, greenhouse supplies, community education and professional forester services.
